Split Fiction developer Hazelight celebrates 50 million games sales, but it’s not its newest game that dominates the pie chart
Hazelight Studios announced it has surpassed 50 million combined game sales across its three major releases, marking a significant milestone for the Swedish developer known for local co-op experiences.
The sales breakdown reveals an unexpected distribution. While Split Fiction, the studio’s most recent release from 2025, achieved 7 million sales and A Way Out, the studio’s debut from 2018, reached 13 million sales, 2021’s It Takes Two dominates with an impressive 30 million sales—accounting for 60% of the studio’s total. This makes It Takes Two by far the studio’s best-performing title, contrary to expectations that their newest game would lead.
It Takes Two’s achievement is particularly noteworthy in context: its 30 million sales surpasses Pokémon Scarlet & Violet at approximately 28 million copies sold, placing it among the best-selling games of its generation. This underscores the remarkable success of the local co-op gaming niche that Hazelight has carved out and dominated across all three releases.
The sustained success across multiple titles suggests the studio has established a dedicated fanbase that values shared gaming experiences. Each game maintaining strong sales figures demonstrates the viability of co-op-focused game design, despite the niche market. The milestone is particularly impressive given Hazelight’s infrequent release schedule, with typically several years between major titles.
