Netflix launches ‘Playground’ video game app for children
Netflix has launched Playground, a new video game application designed specifically for children aged 8 and younger. Available to all Netflix subscribers at no additional cost, Playground offers an ad-free and purchase-free gaming experience, representing Netflix’s expansion into interactive entertainment for its youngest users.
The app provides access to a library of instantly playable games built around popular Netflix properties and franchises, including Peppa Pig and Sesame Street. One of its key features is offline playability, allowing children to enjoy games without an internet connection—a practical feature for tablet and mobile-based gaming.
John Derderian, Netflix’s VP of animation series and kids & family TV, emphasized the company’s vision in a statement: “We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favorite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favorite characters. We’re creating a seamless destination for discovery and learning.”
This launch reflects Netflix’s broader strategy to deepen engagement with younger audiences and create new value propositions within its ecosystem. By integrating games featuring beloved characters and franchises, Netflix aims to provide complementary entertainment that keeps children engaged across multiple content formats while maintaining parental confidence through a controlled, ad-free environment.
