Black Tabby Games slinks into game publishing with 1000xResist creator’s next game

Black Tabby Games, the indie studio behind popular titles Slay the Princess and Scarlet Hollow, has announced the launch of Black Tabby Publishing, its new publishing arm. The label has already secured its first title: Prove You’re Human, the next game from Sunset Visitor, the studio that developed the critically acclaimed 1000xResist.

Black Tabby Publishing will provide full funding, publishing support, and release management for Prove You’re Human. Co-founder Abby Howard explained the motivation: “We’re doing well enough that we can afford to make our games, and now we want to be able to help other people. We’re in a position where we can, so why wouldn’t we?”

The game itself explores AI themes in an unconventional way. Prove You’re Human challenges players to convince a giant robotic head on a stick that it is not human. According to creative director Remy Siu of Sunset Visitor, the studio was inspired by the cultural focus on artificial intelligence in 2024 and wanted to explore it through the lens of science fiction traditions. “That was when we really wanted to dive into what we see as a long tradition of science fiction writing and thinking about artificial intelligence,” Siu explains.

Black Tabby Publishing’s roster already includes a second title from animation duo SmallBü, demonstrating the label’s commitment to supporting diverse indie creators. This move positions Black Tabby Games alongside other successful indie developers like Innersloth that have expanded into publishing to support the broader indie game community during an increasingly unstable industry landscape.
