Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse Let’s You Fight Joan Of Arc And Explore Notre Dame In New Trailer
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is a new revival of the Castlevania franchise in development by Evil Empire (the studio behind Dead Cells) in partnership with publisher Konami. The game is scheduled for PS5 release in 2026.
Set in Paris, the metroidvania-style exploration platformer features the iconic Notre Dame cathedral as a key location. The game’s story includes a corrupted version of historical figure Joan of Arc as a boss encounter. Players control a whip-wielding Belmont protagonist navigating the supernatural setting.
The developers have significantly expanded the whip mechanics, which serve as both a combat weapon and a movement tool—allowing players to swing and traverse environments like a trapeze artist. This represents some of the most versatile whip action in the franchise’s history. Recent gameplay trailers showcase sharp art direction, smooth animation, and fast-paced combat that combines exploration with action-oriented encounters.
While Evil Empire is known for the roguelike Dead Cells, Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse is being positioned as a traditional exploration-focused platformer rather than a roguelike experience. Trailers shown at the Triple-i Initiative showcase have generated positive reception, though Konami has not yet announced a specific release date within the 2026 window.
