Frostpunk studio reveals dark and twisted farming thriller Crop, which blends Stardew Valley with the eeriness and mystery of Twin Peaks
11 Bit Studios, known for releases like Indika and Thaumaturge, has announced Crop, a new farming game developed by Norwegian studio Carbonara Games. The title combines the farming simulation mechanics of Stardew Valley with the dark, mysterious atmosphere of the TV series Twin Peaks.
Crop distinguishes itself through its unusual premise. Rather than inheriting a farm through conventional means, players arrive at their new farm in bizarre and unsettling circumstances—emerging naked from the boot of a car. The opening immediately sets a darker tone, as players are tasked with burying the farm’s previous owner on their first day.
Despite superficial similarities to cosy farming games like Stardew Valley and Moonglow Bay, Crop is positioned as a thriller narrative experience rather than a relaxing simulator. The game appears to blend the comfort mechanics of traditional farm sims with mystery and tension reminiscent of David Lynch’s storytelling style.
The announcement came during the Triple-i Initiative Showcase. While details remain limited from these early previews, Crop seems designed to subvert the typical farming game formula by pairing rural, peaceful activities with underlying dark secrets and narrative intrigue.
