Doki Doki Literature Club Removed From Google Play Store After Already Being There For Months
Doki Doki Literature Club, a renowned visual novel that became a cult phenomenon when it released on PC in 2017, has been removed from Google’s Play Store after just a few months of availability. The game was added to the Android storefront in December 2025 but has since been pulled due to what Google cited as violations of its Terms of Service regarding the “depiction of sensitive themes.”
The removal came despite the game having accumulated thousands of positive user reviews on the platform. Serenity Forge, the studio behind the title, acknowledged the removal and noted that the game remains available on numerous other major platforms, including iOS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, and PC.
Doki Doki Literature Club garnered significant attention and acclaim upon its original release as a free visual novel on Steam. While initially appearing as a straightforward Japanese visual novel set in a high school literature club—marketed as featuring “cute girls”—the game is known for subverting player expectations with unexpected horror and darker thematic elements as the narrative progresses.
The mobile removal represents a challenge for the title’s continued accessibility, though its widespread availability across other platforms provides players with alternative means to experience the game. Serenity Forge indicated it is working toward getting the game reinstated on Google’s platform, highlighting ongoing discussions around content moderation policies on major digital storefronts.
