Don’t Starve is back for more darkly whimsical co-op survival in Don’t Starve Elsewhere, and this time there’s hills!

Klei Entertainment has announced Don’t Starve Elsewhere, the third major entry in its darkly whimsical survival franchise. Revealed during the 2026 Triple-i Initiative Showcase, the game marks a decade-long gap since Don’t Starve Together launched in 2016, following the original 2013 roguelike survival hit.

Don’t Starve Elsewhere continues the series’ signature Gothic aesthetic, drawing visual inspiration from Edward Gorey and Tim Burton’s gloomy sensibilities. The game promises adventure in a “strange and unforgiving new world filled with magic, monsters and mystery,” maintaining the franchise’s appeal as a darkly humorous survival experience.

The new installment retains the cooperative multiplayer gameplay that defined Don’t Starve Together, with familiar characters like Wilson returning for the experience. The game combines survival crafting mechanics with collaborative play, preserving the series’ balance of accessibility and challenge. Notable additions to this new world include hills as a landscape feature, which the developers have highlighted as a meaningful environmental element.

Klei Entertainment’s latest sequel reinforces the franchise’s enduring appeal: approachable yet demanding survival gameplay wrapped in distinctive visual presentation and dark humor. The announcement signals the studio’s continued commitment to the Don’t Starve universe, bringing the community back together for another chapter of desperate survival and creative crafting in an inherently hostile world.
