Art of Rally studio’s Over the Hill gets an alpha playtest this month, and a fancy new trailer with some fresh reveals
Over the Hill, the off-roading exploration game from Art of Rally developers Funselektor and Strelka Games, has celebrated reaching 1 million Steam wishlists by announcing a closed alpha playtest. The game received a new trailer during the Triple-i Initiative showcase, revealing the Algeria biome as a fresh exploration area.
The Algeria region features sweeping plateaus, ancient ruins, sand-swept valleys, and fallen meteorites across its landscape. Players can navigate these environments freely in vintage 4x4 vehicles from the 1960s to 1980s, either solo or in co-op play. The minimalistic art style and relaxed approach to off-roading exploration align with the studio’s known aesthetic from titles like Art of Rally.
Over the Hill positions itself as the cosy cousin to exploration-heavy terrain traversers like SnowRunner and MudRunner. Rather than focusing on punishing difficulty or survival mechanics, the game emphasises a dreamy driving experience and leisurely exploration. This marks a natural progression for Funselektor, whose previous work has been characterised by stylish, vibe-heavy arcade design with minimalistic presentation.
Interested players can sign up for the closed alpha playtest now. The game is scheduled to release later in 2026.
