Art of Rally studio’s Over the Hill gets an alpha playtest this month, and a fancy new trailer with some fresh reveals

Over the Hill, the upcoming off-roading exploration game from Funselektor and Strelka Games (creators of Art of Rally), has announced a closed alpha playtest and revealed new gameplay footage. The studio unveiled a fresh trailer during the Triple-i Initiative showcase featuring a new playable region in Algeria.

The game has already achieved significant success, surpassing 1 million wishlists on Steam despite lacking a firm release date beyond 2026. Developers are celebrating this milestone by inviting players to sign up for the closed alpha playtest starting this month.

Over the Hill delivers an off-road exploration experience comparable to MudRunner and SnowRunner, featuring challenging terrain navigation through mud, snow, and varied landscapes. Players will use different tools while exploring the wilderness in a relaxing, minimalistic driving experience that contrasts sharply with the competitive difficulty of Funselektor’s previous title, Art of Rally.

The trailer showcases enhanced visuals and terrain variety, demonstrating the studio’s signature minimalist aesthetic and focus on meditative gameplay over intense competition. A console version is confirmed to be in development alongside the PC release. The game is targeted for launch in 2026.
