Legendary designer Warren Spector’s stealthy Thick as Thieves ditches PvP for solo and co-op as May release revealed

Warren Spector, the legendary designer behind iconic stealth games Deus Ex and Thief: A Dark Project, has announced a May 20 release date for his latest project, Thick as Thieves. The game has undergone a significant creative shift from its original vision.

Otherside Entertainment, the studio developing Thick as Thieves, initially planned the game as a PvPvE multiplayer experience. However, the team has reimagined it as a solo and two-player cooperative game instead, focusing the design around these modes rather than competitive multiplayer.

Thick as Thieves is a heist simulator and immersive sim that draws comparisons to classics like the original Thief series and recent titles like Arkane Studios’ Dishonored. Players will undertake “tightly curated” heists in the fictional Scottish city of Kilcairn, leveraging stealth and strategy to complete their objectives.

The game’s shift away from PvPvE multiplayer to cooperative and single-player gameplay represents a notable change in direction. Otherside revealed the updated scope and a new gameplay trailer at a recent Triple-I showcase, confirming the May 20 release date despite the substantial redesign.

For fans of immersive sims and stealth-focused gameplay, Thick as Thieves aims to deliver the intricate level design and player agency that Spector’s previous projects are known for, now tailored specifically for solo players and cooperative partners rather than competitive multiplayer encounters.
