Legendary designer Warren Spector’s stealthy Thick as Thieves ditches PvP for solo and co-op as May release revealed

Warren Spector’s stealth game Thick as Thieves has undergone a significant design pivot since its 2024 reveal. The game, originally announced as a PvPvE experience, will now focus exclusively on solo and cooperative play, ditching its player-versus-player component. Set in an alternate-history 1910s Scottish city called Kilcairn, the game features atmospheric environments of rain-slicked streets and soot-stained rooftops described as being “steeped in intrigue and rich in opportunity.”

Spector, whose legendary career includes designing Thief: A Dark Project and influencing immersive sims like Dishonored, brings his signature stealth design philosophy to Thick as Thieves. The game is scheduled to launch on May 20th across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms.

The shift from competitive multiplayer to solo and co-op gameplay represents a notable change in the project’s direction, though the stealth-focused design that made Spector’s previous work iconic appears to remain central to the experience. The game will offer players the flexibility to experience Kilcairn’s opportunities either alone or with a partner.
