Book of Mormon’s Elder Price is running an incredible D&D campaign

Kevin Clay, best known for his role as Elder Price in Broadway’s The Book of Mormon, has been running an impressive Dungeons & Dragons campaign featuring his custom-built world of Kardelheim. The campaign began in the late 2010s when Clay and fellow cast member Jacob Ben-Shmuel, who understudied as Elder Cunningham, sought a creative outlet to fill their downtime while touring with the musical across the country. Though Ben-Shmuel had previously experimented with D&D, he took on the role of Dungeon Master to run Clay’s homebrew campaign. The pair found D&D to be an ideal activity given their hectic performance schedule—with nightly shows consuming their evenings, they had limited time for elaborate hobbies that required extensive preparation or equipment. The relative simplicity and flexibility of running a campaign made it perfect for their needs. The campaign has allowed both performers to maintain creative connections and camaraderie during the demands of life on the road as touring actors.
