Another Switch 1 Release Might Be Ditching The “Cloud Version” Label On Switch 2

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy appears to be heading to Nintendo Switch 2, according to a rating that recently appeared on Taiwan’s Digital Game Rating Committee website. If confirmed, the release would mark a significant upgrade from the game’s original Switch port, which was severely limited by cloud version restrictions.

Eidos Montreal’s 2021 action game was critically acclaimed on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, but its Switch release was hampered by the need for cloud streaming due to hardware limitations. This forced players to maintain an internet connection to play, undermining the portability that makes Nintendo systems attractive.

A native Switch 2 release would resolve these technical constraints, allowing the game to run locally without reliance on streaming. The discovery of the rating suggests the port may be nearing announcement, continuing an emerging trend of cloud-dependent Switch titles finally receiving proper native versions on Switch 2’s more powerful hardware. This aligns with industry expectations that Switch 2 would enable ports of games previously deemed too demanding for the original Switch.
