PS5 RPG Honkai: Star Rail Is Getting a MAPPA Anime, Starring Best Girl Kafka

HoYoverse announced a new anime adaptation of Honkai: Star Rail in partnership with MAPPA, the acclaimed Japanese animation studio. The project will be directed by Yuzuru Tachikawa, known for Death Parade.

The announcement arrived via livestream with a three-minute concept trailer showcasing animation quality and key characters from the game. The trailer emphasizes Kafka, a fan-favorite character, alongside other popular heroes including Blade, Firefly, and the player character Trailblazer.

The anime may release before HoYoverse’s previously announced Genshin Impact adaptation, though no release timeline has been confirmed. While the concept trailer provides only a brief preview of the project’s final scope and format, the animation quality has generated significant enthusiasm from the fanbase.

The adaptation represents HoYoverse’s expanding portfolio in anime and media. Following the success of Genshin Impact and other properties, the partnership with MAPPA signals a major investment in translating Honkai: Star Rail’s universe into animation, tapping into the broader gaming-to-anime adaptation trend.
