Rust 2? “Nope,” Dev Says After Weird Steam Page Goes Up

A fake Steam page for “Rust 2” appeared recently, sparking speculation about a potential sequel to the survival game. However, Facepunch founder Garry Newman quickly shut down any hopes, telling PC Gamer that the company is not developing Rust 2 and has no idea how the Steam page came to be.

The mysterious listing appeared with minimal details or images, and the situation became even more peculiar when Facepunch COO Alistair McFarlane responded to online discussion with a cryptic “You saw nothing” comment, inadvertently fueling further speculation about a potential sequel.

SteamDB, a third-party service that monitors the Steam database, flagged the Rust 2 page as “suspicious” and noted that it could be “malicious or impersonating another product.” This assessment appears accurate given Facepunch’s denial and lack of information about the page’s origin.

The incident highlights how quickly unconfirmed information can spread through gaming communities, particularly when it involves beloved franchises and cryptic responses from industry figures.
