1000xResist developer added a video sequence ‘out of desperation’ but now they’re bringing FMV back for their next game

The developer behind 1000xResist initially incorporated a full-motion video sequence into the game as an unplanned addition, describing the decision as made “out of desperation.” Despite the unconventional nature of the inclusion—featuring recorded footage of Hong Kong—the approach proved successful enough to reshape the team’s vision for future projects.

Encouraged by this experience, the studio is now bringing FMV back as a core design element in their upcoming title, Prove You’re Human. Unlike its reluctant implementation in 1000xResist, the new game is being purposefully built to blend 3D graphics with full-motion video, making video sequences an intentional part of the creative vision rather than a stopgap solution.

This evolution reflects how experimental game design can lead to unexpected creative directions. The developer’s shift from accidentally discovering the potential of FMV to deliberately incorporating it as a hybrid storytelling medium demonstrates the value of embracing unexpected design choices when they resonate with players.
