Karl Urban Wants To Play John Marston In A Red Dead Redemption Film

Karl Urban, the New Zealand actor known for roles in Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, Judge Dredd, The Boys, and the upcoming Mortal Kombat film, has expressed interest in playing John Marston if a film adaptation of Red Dead Redemption were to be made.

In an interview with Square Mile magazine, Urban stated that Red Dead Redemption would be his preferred choice for any video game adaptation project. “I’d love to play that character,” Urban said of the outlaw protagonist. “Red Dead is a fantastic game.”

Urban acknowledged that he hasn’t been heavily invested in gaming culture throughout his career, but expressed genuine enthusiasm for the property. His interest in the role suggests potential industry momentum around adapting Rockstar Games’ acclaimed western title for film, continuing a broader trend of video game properties being adapted into traditional media.

The actor’s career trajectory, beginning with Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy, has notably shifted toward more genre-focused and fan-beloved properties in recent years, making him a potentially fitting choice for the complex outlaw character of John Marston.
