PS6 Pricing: 41% of Digital Foundry Viewers Would Pay $699 or More for a Next-Gen PlayStation
Digital Foundry’s YouTube poll of over 50,000 viewers reveals significant consumer willingness to pay premium prices for the PlayStation 6. Forty-one percent of respondents indicated they would pay $699 or higher for a next-gen PlayStation console—$200 more than the PS5 Disc Edition’s 2020 launch price of $499, and $300 more than the PS5 Digital Edition.
The most popular maximum price point was $599, selected by 34% of respondents, while 25% indicated they would only pay $499. The current PS5 Disc Edition typically retails for around $549, reflecting increases driven by post-pandemic inflation and rising flash memory costs. These inflationary pressures are likely to influence PS6 pricing strategies as well.
The poll results suggest consumers are prepared for higher next-generation hardware costs, though there remains notable price sensitivity in the market, with a quarter of respondents maintaining resistance to prices above $499. This data may provide valuable insight into Sony’s pricing strategy for the PlayStation 6 as the company plans its next-generation console launch.
