You don’t have to spend more than $50 on a great USB-C dock for your Switch 2

Nintendo Switch 2 introduced new wireless controller connectivity protocols and USB-C video output specifications that significantly differ from its predecessor, requiring third-party accessory manufacturers to redesign their products entirely from scratch. Existing Switch dock solutions are incompatible with the new console generation.

Third-party manufacturers have begun developing USB-C docking solutions for the Switch 2, though ensuring long-term compatibility represents an ongoing engineering challenge. With each system update, Nintendo may modify USB-C protocol specifications or other technical parameters, requiring manufacturers to continuously validate and test their solutions for reliability and compatibility.

Testing revealed that multiple third-party USB-C dock products can achieve functionally identical features despite significant price variations. The Verge tested two such solutions and found one costs considerably more than the other, despite offering comparable core functionality.

The positive news for Switch 2 owners is that affordable docking options exist at price points under $50. These competitively-priced third-party alternatives provide excellent value and flexibility, allowing players to access necessary docking functionality without investing in premium first-party Nintendo accessories.
