Upcoming Fable Game Delayed Internally, It’s Claimed
The upcoming Fable reboot from Microsoft has reportedly been delayed internally, according to journalist Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb. However, this does not necessarily mean the game will miss its 2026 release window entirely.
The Fable franchise, once a staple of early Xbox, is set to return as a complete reboot. Microsoft had previously announced an Autumn 2026 release window for the title, covering September through November. However, Grubb’s reporting suggests the development team has pushed back the game internally over concerns about market competition.
The primary concern cited is the November 19, 2026 launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, one of the most anticipated releases of the year. Microsoft reportedly worried that releasing Fable during the same period would negatively impact the game’s commercial prospects. As a result, the company may be considering pushing the release further into December 2026 or potentially into 2027 to create more separation from GTA 6’s launch.
Despite the internal delay, Microsoft apparently still intends to deliver Fable within 2026 if possible, with a December release representing the current working plan if the autumn window proves unviable. The decision reflects the gaming industry’s ongoing challenges with release date strategy in a crowded marketplace.
