[Update] Defunct MMO studio founder denies allegation he spent Kickstarter funds on private chefs, antiques, and TCGs

Intrepid Studios founder Steven Sharif has denied allegations that he misappropriated Kickstarter funds for personal expenses including private chefs, antiques, and trading card games. The allegations were raised by YouTuber NefasQS in a recent video covering the troubled development of the MMORPG Ashes of Creation. In a statement provided on April 12, Sharif claimed that NefasQS was “fed false and defamatory information by individuals with an axe to grind” in an attempt to litigate the dispute publicly rather than through proper channels.

This latest controversy adds to the ongoing drama surrounding Ashes of Creation, which has faced numerous criticisms and concerns during its extended development cycle. The game has been in development for years, and the studio has previously faced scrutiny over its spending and development progress. Sharif’s denial suggests this may escalate into further public disputes or potential legal action, particularly given his characterization of the allegations as “false and defamatory.”
