Rockstar Games says hack will have ‘no impact’
Rockstar Games confirmed Saturday that hackers breached a third-party cloud service used by the company, compromising some internal data. The group ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for the attack, stating it gained unauthorized access to Rockstar’s Snowflake instances through Anodot, a cost-monitoring and analytics service.
The attackers have issued a ransom demand with a deadline of April 14th, threatening to publicly leak the stolen data if payment is not received. However, Rockstar has emphasized that player data was not affected by the breach and that the compromised information was limited in scope.
In a statement to gaming media, the company stated that “this incident has no impact on our organization or our players,” reassuring the gaming community that service continuity and user security remain unaffected. While the exact nature of the stolen data remains unclear, the company’s swift public confirmation and damage assessment suggest they are treating the incident as contained and non-critical to core operations.
