This Tabletop Simulator mod is the only way to play Magic’s Commander Format fully online

Magic: The Gathering’s 2026 roadmap is generating controversy with the introduction of licensed crossovers featuring properties like Ninja Turtles, Star Trek, and Marvel Heroes. While these tie-ins successfully attract new players to the game, longtime fans debate whether they compromise the game’s identity.

For casual players, the primary challenge isn’t the new sets themselves—it’s finding a way to play Commander, Magic’s most popular casual format, online. While Wizards of the Coast offers Magic Arena for quick matches and Magic Online for competitive play, neither platform fully supports the multiplayer Commander experience. The company’s official solution, Spelltable, is a webcam-based tool for remote Commander games with friends, but it has significant limitations.

According to Polygon, a third-party Tabletop Simulator mod has emerged as the definitive way to play Magic’s Commander format with full online functionality. This community-created solution provides features and flexibility that official tools currently lack, leaving players relying on independent developers to fill a gap in Wizards of the Coast’s digital offerings.
