Hollywood is making yet another Roblox movie adaptation
Disney-owned 20th Century Studios is developing a feature film adaptation of 99 Nights in the Forest, a hugely popular game on the Roblox platform. The announcement marks the studio’s first venture into game adaptations and represents the latest example of Hollywood’s growing interest in converting Roblox games into theatrical releases.
99 Nights in the Forest has been a remarkable commercial success since its June 2025 release. The game ranks among Roblox’s top earners and most-played titles of all time, with an impressive 26 billion lifetime visits and a peak of 14 million concurrent players. These numbers underscore the game’s widespread appeal and substantial player base that could provide built-in interest for a film adaptation.
The game was created by a three-person development team, demonstrating how small independent teams can achieve massive scale on the platform. The game’s success reflects broader trends in the gaming industry, where independent developers have increasingly found paths to prominence and profitability through platforms like Roblox.
This adaptation is part of a notable wave of Roblox-to-screen conversions, with 99 Nights in the Forest becoming at least the fourth Roblox game that Hollywood studios are attempting to adapt into film franchises. This trend suggests growing recognition among major studios that Roblox games represent viable intellectual property for film and television development, particularly given their ability to cultivate dedicated player communities and achieve significant engagement metrics.
