Xbox’s Asha Sharma Speaks On Camera For First Time As Microsoft Gaming CEO
Asha Sharma, the new Microsoft Gaming CEO, made her first on-camera appearance as Xbox leader at GDC 2026 in March. During an encounter with YouTuber Mr. Wright Way at the conference, Sharma discussed her excitement about attending her first Game Developers Conference and commented on her new role leading Microsoft’s gaming division. The informal meeting also featured outgoing Xbox chief Phil Spencer, who discussed his retirement from the company.
The appearance represents Sharma’s initial public-facing moment since assuming leadership of Microsoft Gaming. Though she has been actively working on improvements for Xbox fans in recent weeks, this GDC encounter provided the first documented on-camera opportunity to hear directly from her about her enthusiasm and vision for the role. The exchange was characterized as warm and positive. Spencer’s presence at the event highlighted the significant leadership transition underway within the division as he prepares to step down from his long-standing position overseeing Xbox operations.
