Destiny: Rising is fighting back with its latest update

Destiny: Rising, NetEase’s mobile game spinoff of the Destiny franchise, is making a significant comeback attempt following a period of declining player numbers and uncertainty about the title’s long-term viability. The game received a major overhaul update at the end of March that was so comprehensive it prompted the player community to dub it “Destiny: Rising 2.0.”

The update fundamentally restructured many of the game’s core systems, making them nearly unrecognizable even to established players. The most impactful change targets the game’s most controversial and explicitly monetized mechanics, particularly the gacha-only character acquisition system that had become a focal point of player frustration.

These modifications represent a direct response to community criticism about the game’s monetization model, which had contributed to poor engagement metrics. While the update shows NetEase’s commitment to salvaging the title, it remains too early to determine whether these changes will prove sufficient to reverse the game’s fortunes and secure its long-term future. The aggressive redesign suggests the publisher is treating this as a critical juncture for the project, betting that addressing the most egregious player-facing issues could restore confidence in the title and stabilize its player base.
