EA Follows Anthem Shutdown With Closure of BioWare’s Dragon Age: Inquisition PS3 Servers

EA is shutting down servers for BioWare’s Dragon Age: Inquisition on PlayStation 3, with the closure scheduled for April 28, 2026. The multiplayer servers will go offline more than 11 years after the game’s original 2014 launch. While PS3 players will lose online functionality, servers will continue to operate on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox platforms.

This shutdown adds to the growing trend of legacy games losing online services. It follows shortly after EA and BioWare’s discontinuation of Anthem, the studio’s unsuccessful live-service title. Dragon Age: Inquisition’s PS3 servers remarkably persisted through two full console generations—from PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4—before reaching this sunset date, making the extended lifespan of the multiplayer servers notable.

The closure highlights ongoing game preservation challenges, as PS3 players will permanently lose access to multiplayer features once the servers shut down. The platform fragmentation means players on newer systems will retain their online experiences while PS3 owners see their access eliminated, creating a divided community for the 2014 BioWare RPG.
