Fable still coming out this autumn, despite reports that developer Playground Games is “worried” about Grand Theft Auto 6

Weekend reports suggested Microsoft’s Fable reboot had been internally delayed at developer Playground Games, potentially pushing the release from autumn 2026 into 2027 to avoid competing with Grand Theft Auto 6’s November 19 launch. Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Grubb reported that the studio was concerned about releasing near the massive Rockstar title, though he clarified the internal delay didn’t necessarily mean a 2027 slip and that the team was “still trying to get it out this year.”

Playground Games quickly addressed the speculation on April 13 via official social media, stating “We’re excited to welcome you back to Albion in Autumn 2026!” This confirmation appears to have settled the matter, with the studio reiterating its previously announced autumn 2026 window.

The timing reflects broader industry caution about GTA 6’s dominance on the 2026 release calendar. Fable, a highly anticipated reboot initially planned for 2025, was previously delayed to 2026 and was given an intentionally broad autumn release window. With Playground Games’ official reconfirmation, the autumn 2026 release remains the current plan, though the seasonal designation provides some flexibility should circumstances change.
