Review: Hades 2 (PS5) - Godlike Sequel Is Pure Power Fantasy

Hades 2 is the latest roguelike from Supergiant Games, continuing the developer’s storied legacy in action gaming that began with Bastion in 2011. The sequel builds on the foundations of the original 2020 Hades, introducing new protagonist Melinoë, the sister of the first game’s protagonist Zagreus. Set in Greek mythology, the story follows an Underworld conquered by Chronos, the Titan of Time, with the gods including Hades, Persephone, and Zagreus imprisoned.

As with Supergiant’s previous titles—including Transistor—Hades 2 showcases the studio’s exceptional approach to art direction and music composition. The sequel significantly elevates the gameplay experience, considerably upping the ante in mechanics and challenge compared to its predecessor while maintaining the isometric action framework that defined the original.

The PS5 version represents another example of Supergiant Games’ commitment to crafting visually stunning and mechanically engaging action games. The combination of sublime audiovisual presentation with refined gameplay creates a compelling power fantasy experience.
