4A Games announces Metro 2039, and we’re getting an Xbox-themed reveal stream later this week

Metro 2039, the fourth mainline entry in the post-apocalyptic first-person shooter series, has been officially announced by developer 4A Games and publisher Deep Silver, following accurate predictions from leaker NateTheHate.

The game will receive its first official reveal as part of a new “Xbox First Look” showcase format on April 16, 2026, at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST. The digital broadcast will be available on YouTube, with Xbox emphasizing the platform’s long-standing home for the franchise.

This marks the series’ return to the spotlight after seven years since Metro Exodus released in 2019. The Metro franchise, based on novels by Dmitry Glukhovsky, follows survivors of nuclear devastation living in Moscow’s subway tunnels and the world above. Previous entries include Metro 2033 (2010), Metro: Last Light (2013), and Metro Exodus (2019).

No gameplay details or story information have been shared ahead of the reveal stream. Xbox has positioned this as the inaugural entry in a new showcase format called “Xbox First Look,” designed to spotlight individual games throughout the year—differentiating it from larger showcases like the Developer_Direct held in January.
