NZXT to pay $3.45 million settlement over Flex PC rentals
NZXT and its business partner Fragile have agreed to settle a class-action lawsuit for $3.45 million over their Flex PC rental service. The preliminary settlement was filed in California District Court on April 7th, closing a civil RICO case that alleged the companies defrauded 19,322 customers through deceptive marketing practices and aggressive debt collection tactics.
Under the settlement terms, affected customers will receive debt forgiveness for any remaining rental obligations and gain full ownership of their personal computers. This allows consumers who participated in the Flex program to keep the hardware they had been renting, effectively transferring ownership and ending the rental relationship.
The case reflects growing concerns about transparency and fairness in consumer electronics rental programs. The settlement was publicized by content creator Gamers Nexus, bringing wider attention to the situation. The resolution highlights scrutiny of rental and subscription models in the gaming hardware industry, particularly regarding potentially predatory practices that may disproportionately impact consumers seeking affordable access to high-end gaming equipment.
