“This is the most reasonable and wise thing to do”: survival shooter Road to Vostok’s dev plans to recharge a bit before tackling fixes and larger updates

Road to Vostok, a Finnish survival shooter developed by solo creator Antti Leinonen, has achieved strong performance following its recent exit from early access. Despite this success and his own admission of being “already tempted” to immediately begin fixing and tweaking the game, Leinonen is taking a deliberate step back to prioritize rest and recovery over rushing into updates.

In a recent Steam post, Leinonen articulated his commitment to sustainable game development practices, emphasizing the critical importance of keeping “that one developer in working condition for many years to come.” Rather than succumbing to pressure to deliver fixes and larger content additions immediately, he plans to recharge before tackling substantial development work.

This measured approach represents a conscious balance between player satisfaction and developer wellbeing, reflecting a growing perspective within indie game development that long-term productivity, quality, and innovation depend fundamentally on maintaining developer health and preventing burnout.
