Bethesda Addresses Starfield’s PS5 Performance Issues and Crashes

Starfield launched on PlayStation 5 last week to widespread crashing issues that have frustrated players. Bethesda Game Studios has publicly acknowledged the problems and stated it is aiming to release a hotfix this week to address the technical failures.

According to the developers, a “small number of causes” for the crashes have been identified, indicating they’ve pinpointed the root issues but are working on implementing fixes. The scope of the problem has been significant enough that some players are seeking refunds through PlayStation Support, with reports suggesting Sony is processing refunds for affected customers—though not universally, as some refund requests are being denied.

The situation has drawn comparisons to Cyberpunk 2077’s notorious launch issues on PS5, when Sony issued widespread refunds. While the Starfield refund process appears less systematic, the fact that it’s occurring at all underscores how problematic the crashing has become for the PS5 playerbase.

Bethesda’s commitment to a fix within the week suggests the issues are being treated as a priority, though the developers have not yet provided specific technical details about what’s causing the crashes or what the patch will address.
