Bloodborne is getting an R-rated animated film adaptation, co-produced by YouTuber JackSepticEye

Sony Pictures has announced an R-rated animated film adaptation of FromSoftware’s acclaimed PlayStation 4 action-RPG Bloodborne. The announcement was made at CinemaCon 2026 on April 13.

The project brings together Sony Pictures, PlayStation Productions, and animation studio Lyrical Animation. Notably, popular YouTuber Seán McLoughlin—better known as JackSepticEye—is serving as a producer on the film. McLoughlin, who has 31.2 million YouTube subscribers, is a known Bloodborne enthusiast whose playthrough videos have garnered millions of views from his fanbase.

Sony’s president of motion picture group, Sanford Panitch, described the adaptation as being “very true” to the beloved PlayStation 4 exclusive. However, most details remain under wraps; the studio has kept plot details and the director’s identity secret for now.

Bloodborne, originally released in 2015 and developed by FromSoftware in collaboration with Sony’s Japan Studio, is a critically acclaimed action-RPG known for its brutal difficulty and rich gothic world centered around the city of Yharnam. The game features Lovecraftian horror themes and has developed a devoted fanbase despite remaining a PlayStation exclusive.

This animated adaptation represents Sony’s continued expansion into game-based film properties, following projects like Uncharted, The Last of Us, and Twisted Metal. The announcement comes separately from an ongoing live-action Bloodborne film project also in development.
