Godzilla Minus Zero Trailer, Plot and Cast Revealed

Director Takashi Yamazaki announced Godzilla Minus Zero, the sequel to his Oscar-winning 2023 film Godzilla Minus One, at CinemaCon 2026 on Tuesday. The film is a historic first: the first-ever Japanese production to be filmed in IMAX format.

Set in 1949, two years after the events of the original film, Godzilla Minus Zero continues the story of the Shikishima family as they face a new catastrophe. The sequel brings back two lead actors from the original: Ryunosuke Kamiki as pilot Koichi Shikishima and Minami Hamabe as Noriko Oishi.

A significant plot development reveals that Godzilla will be taken to New York City, expanding the franchise’s scope beyond Japan. The first official trailer debuted at CinemaCon, with an online release following the presentation. The announcement builds on the momentum of Godzilla Minus One’s critical and commercial success, which earned an Academy Award and established Yamazaki as a major talent in kaiju cinema.
