007 First Light ending leaked via ratings board
A security vulnerability in Indonesia’s Game Rating System (IGRS) resulted in a significant data breach over the weekend, exposing video game footage from multiple upcoming titles to the public. The leak included sensitive content from IO Interactive’s upcoming James Bond title, 007: First Light, with footage reportedly revealing endgame sequences that would constitute major spoilers for players.
The IGRS assigns age ratings for games developed or published in Indonesia and imported titles destined for the Indonesian market. Game developers and publishers are required to submit content—including video footage—to the rating board to verify that the assigned age rating is appropriate for the game’s content. This submission process created the vulnerability that attackers exploited, giving them access to unreleased gameplay footage from numerous titles in development.
The breach affected thousands of game developers and multiple major titles, including Bandai Namco’s Echoes of Aincrad. The incident raises serious concerns about data security practices at ratings boards worldwide, as well as the risks developers face when submitting confidential materials for regulatory approval. Game publishers now face the challenge of managing leaked content while maintaining public interest in their upcoming releases.
