Do You Need Nintendo Switch Online To Play Pokemon Champions?
Pokemon Champions, a new free-to-start title, has launched on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, offering a different experience from traditional Pokemon games. Rather than following the story-driven format of recent titles like Pokemon Scarlet & Violet or the upcoming Pokemon Legends Z-A, Champions focuses exclusively on competitive online battles between players worldwide. The game represents The Pokemon Company’s continued investment in live-service gaming, enabling fans to engage in quick multiplayer battles without purchasing a standalone title. The release comes as Nintendo continues building its Switch 2 library with both new releases and ports of existing Switch titles. A key question for potential players concerns the requirements for online play, specifically whether a Nintendo Switch Online subscription is necessary to access the game’s battle features—a common requirement for online multiplayer on Nintendo platforms.
