Bethesda acknowledges Starfield’s PS5 crashing issues, promises hotfix soon

Starfield has experienced significant technical issues following its launch on PlayStation 5 earlier this month. The space exploration RPG, which initially released on Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2023, has been plagued by crashing problems affecting both base PS5 and PS5 Pro models. Players have reported progression-breaking crashes and freezes, with some describing the game as “unplayable.” Reports indicate crashes occurring frequently during gameplay, particularly when scanning and exploring.

Bethesda Game Studios has publicly acknowledged the crashes and stated it has identified “a small number of causes” responsible for the issues. The publisher committed to releasing a hotfix later this week to address these problems. This marks another technically rough launch for Bethesda, which has a documented history of releasing games with significant bugs that are subsequently patched post-launch.

The PS5 release marks Starfield’s third platform, coming nearly three years after its initial launch. Despite the technical issues, the game’s arrival on PlayStation represents a significant expansion of the title’s audience following its Xbox and PC exclusivity period.
