How To Heal In Windrose: All Healing Items Explained
Windrose, formerly known as Crosswind, has launched in early access on Steam to strong critical reception. The pirate survival game achieved “Very Positive” reviews with 90% positive ratings from over 130 early reviews. The launch was immediately successful, drawing 25,876 concurrent players on its first day.
Developed by Kraken Express, Windrose is a PvE survival title that combines exploration, building, and crafting with challenging soulslite-style combat. Players crash-land on an unknown island and must navigate a vast open world filled with islands, atolls, and “dark secrets” while battling pirates, enemies, and challenging bosses. The game draws inspiration from titles like Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag—which developer Phil called “the best pirate game of all time”—as well as survival games like Valheim and Enshrouded.
The game supports online co-op multiplayer, allowing players to form pirate crews and tackle the world together, though local split-screen is not available. Combat is notably demanding, with enemies dealing significant damage and punishing mistakes heavily. To succeed, players must manage resources carefully, including crafting healing items, gathering materials like clay and lamp oil, and utilizing fast travel systems once unlocked.
Currently, Windrose is confirmed only for PC via Steam. While developers have stated they’re open to “future platform announcements,” there are no confirmed console versions for PS5 or Xbox at this time. The enthusiastic reception during February’s Next Fest demo and strong early access launch suggest the game has considerable momentum. The team ultimately chose a premium model over free-to-play, a decision they believe aligns with player feedback and engagement.
