Xbox Having “Very Big Discussions” About Exclusivity, It’s Claimed

According to Windows Central reporter Jez Corden, Microsoft is currently having “very big discussions” internally about Xbox game exclusivity policy. The talks are occurring under newly appointed Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who has been working to rebuild the Xbox brand and has already signaled openness to strategic changes, including public statements that Xbox Game Pass is “too expensive” for consumers.

Microsoft’s potential reconsideration of exclusivity represents a notable shift. Xbox historically maintained exclusive games for its platform and PC, but in recent years released several first-party titles on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, including Hi-Fi Rush, Pentiment, and Sea of Thieves. These cross-platform releases now appear to be under strategic review as the company evaluates its market positioning.

While no public announcements have confirmed any policy changes, and numerous Xbox games remain scheduled for PlayStation 5 release, the reported internal discussions suggest Microsoft executives are recognizing the value of gaming and Xbox as consumer touchpoints outside of work-related products. The exclusivity deliberations are part of Sharma’s broader effort to improve Xbox’s fortunes and reputation within the gaming industry. These strategic conversations coincide with Microsoft’s upcoming Project Helix initiative.
