“Are You High?” – Xbox Co-Creator Believes Whatever Nintendo Makes Next Is Far More Interesting Than Project Helix

Xbox co-creator Seamus Blackley has expressed skepticism about Microsoft’s gaming future, particularly regarding Project Helix, the company’s upcoming console hardware. In an interview with The Expansion Pass, Blackley criticized Microsoft’s shift toward being “entirely AI-focused” and stated his lack of enthusiasm for Project Helix as a result.

Rather than the next Xbox, Blackley indicated greater interest in Steam and Nintendo’s future hardware plans, suggesting that whatever Nintendo produces next—hypothetically a “Switch 3”—would be more compelling than Project Helix. This reflects Blackley’s concern that Microsoft’s new strategic direction, centered on AI, doesn’t align with his interests as both a developer and gamer.

Blackley’s comments highlight the ongoing tension within the gaming industry around AI integration and traditional gaming hardware innovation. His remarks suggest dissatisfaction with Microsoft’s current trajectory, positioning Nintendo’s mysterious upcoming plans as a more attractive proposition for the gaming community.
