Blizzard Cinematics Team Helping with Fable’s Development

Matt Booty, recently appointed as Microsoft Gaming’s Chief Content Officer, has highlighted the collaborative nature of development across Xbox Game Studios, revealing that Blizzard Entertainment’s cinematics team is contributing to the upcoming Fable reboot.

During an appearance on the Official Xbox Podcast, Booty discussed the synergies between Xbox’s portfolio of studios, illustrating how teams share expertise and resources across different projects. He specifically mentioned that Blizzard’s cinematics department is assisting Playground Games with Fable’s development—an example of cross-studio collaboration that leverages specialized talent across Microsoft’s gaming divisions.

The move makes sense given Playground Games’ transition from the Forza Horizon franchise to a full-scale RPG. Access to Blizzard’s renowned cinematics expertise could significantly enhance Fable’s visual storytelling and cinematic sequences.

Booty’s comments come following recent organizational changes at Microsoft Gaming. Asha Sharma was appointed as the new CEO of Microsoft Gaming, with Booty stepping into the newly created Chief Content Officer role. These changes followed Phil Spencer’s retirement and Sarah Bond’s resignation.

With Microsoft overseeing more than 30 game development teams across Xbox Game Studios, Booty’s emphasis on a “culture of cultures” suggests the company is actively promoting collaboration and resource-sharing among its developers. This approach could yield significant benefits for major upcoming titles like Fable, demonstrating how internal consolidation enables studios to pool technical expertise and optimize resource allocation.
