‘Hytale’ Dev Seeks Legal Action Against Knock-Off Switch eShop Game

Hypixel Studios, developer of the anticipated sandbox RPG Hytale, has announced it is pursuing legal action against a fraudulent clone appearing on the Nintendo Switch eShop. The fake title, Hytale: Sandbox RPG, is being sold by developer RoVi Ninen for £4.99, deliberately mimicking both the original’s name and key artwork to deceive consumers into purchasing an unauthorized product.

The legitimate Hytale is currently in early access exclusively on PC, making the eShop clone particularly problematic as it misleads Switch players into buying an entirely different game. The deceptive branding has already generated confusion, with potential customers contacting Hypixel Studios about the fraudulent listing.

Co-director Simon Collins-Laflamme confirmed on social media that the matter has been escalated to the company’s legal team, indicating intent to pursue removal of the fake game from the eShop. This intellectual property violation—copying both branding and artwork—represents clear trademark and copyright infringement. The incident highlights ongoing moderation challenges on digital storefronts, where counterfeit games exploit brand recognition to drive sales. Hypixel Studios’ swift legal response demonstrates serious commitment to protecting its intellectual property and safeguarding consumers from purchasing unauthorized products.
