EXCLUSIVE: First Details On Lacrosse 26’s Gameplay And Franchise

Lacrosse 26, announced Tuesday night, marks the first new lacrosse video game in eight years. The next-generation title is coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on April 24, with development led by Crosse Studios and founder Carlo Sunseri.

The game has been in development since 2020 and was built entirely from scratch in Unity. Rather than pursuing an arcade-style experience, Crosse Studios designed Lacrosse 26 as a simulation focused on authenticity. According to Sunseri, the team prioritized getting gameplay fundamentals right from the start, with early prototypes using empty capsules on the field to develop and test the AI systems before adding visual polish.

This simulation-focused approach represents a deliberate choice to create a more realistic representation of lacrosse that appeals to players seeking authentic sports gameplay. The six-year development timeline underscores the significant effort required to build a faithful sports simulation rather than a casual sports title.

The release fills a notable gap in the gaming market, as lacrosse has lacked major new video game releases in recent years. With both current-generation console support and a development philosophy centered on mimicking real lacrosse as closely as possible, Lacrosse 26 aims to attract both dedicated fans and new audiences to virtual lacrosse competition.
