Yooka-Laylee Dev Playtonic Seems To Be Teasing Something

Playtonic Games has begun teasing a potential performance upgrade for Yooka-Replaylee via cryptic posts on Bluesky. The developer started posting mysterious messages referencing the number “60” beginning last Saturday, followed by a riddle hinting at performance improvements that would transform something that “didn’t take flight” into something that will “soar, silky-smooth like never before.”

The teaser strongly suggests an upgrade from the game’s current 30fps performance cap to 60fps on the Switch 2. Since Yooka-Replaylee’s October 2025 launch, the 30fps limitation has drawn criticism from players who wanted higher frame rates. Playtonic’s cryptic messaging appears designed to build anticipation around resolving this performance concern.

The developer’s choice to highlight the number “60” in their teasers, combined with the performance-focused language in the riddle, makes the intent relatively transparent. The reference to something that “didn’t take flight” likely alludes to the game’s original performance issues, while the promise of silky-smooth performance suggests an enhanced experience.

Yooka-Replaylee represents Playtonic’s reimagining of the original Yooka-Laylee for the Switch 2 platform. Given the Switch 2’s enhanced hardware capabilities, delivering improved performance would be a natural optimization for this version.

The company has indicated it will share more details about this apparent upgrade, though an official announcement has not yet been made. The teaser campaign demonstrates Playtonic’s acknowledgment of player feedback regarding the game’s performance limitations and their commitment to addressing these concerns.
