Police Break Up Chaotic Costco Scene Over Pokemon Cards
Police were called to a Costco location in Mississauga, Ontario on April 10 following a chaotic scene at an early morning Pokémon trading card release event. Approximately 30 to 40 collectors had gathered around 6:45 a.m. to purchase the Prismatic Evolutions set when the incident escalated dramatically.
According to local news source 905Hub, the chaos began when someone threw coffee onto a cart filled with card boxes. The situation quickly worsened when a vehicle struck the cart, scattering card packs across the parking lot. The driver then drove over the scattered cards before fleeing the scene at high speed.
Footage of the incident, originally posted to Instagram by PokeStreetz on April 10, captured the aftermath and subsequent police response. Video shows a crowd of dismayed collectors surveying the damaged merchandise scattered on the pavement, as well as multiple police vehicles pursuing the fleeing vehicle as it exited the parking lot.
The incident highlights the intense demand and volatile atmosphere surrounding rare Pokémon card releases. Prismatic Evolutions is a highly sought-after release among collectors, and limited-availability early-morning drops often draw large crowds hoping to secure copies, sometimes resulting in chaotic conditions.
