RuneScape developer to expand its IP to the Asia-Pacific region
Jagex has announced the expansion of its RuneScape franchise into the Asia-Pacific region with the upcoming launch of RuneScape: Dragonwilds. The game will be localized in Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean, releasing later this summer. This marks the first official entry of the RuneScape IP into APAC markets.
The localization effort represents a significant strategic move for Jagex, as APAC is home to a large and engaged gaming population. CEO Jon Bellamy emphasized the importance of native language support, describing it as more than a simple translation exercise. The company aims to reach “the most discerning and passionate player communities in the world” through this expansion.
This announcement reflects the gaming industry’s continued focus on Asian markets, which represent substantial growth opportunities. By providing native language support in major markets like China, Japan, and Korea, Jagex is positioning RuneScape: Dragonwilds to capture regional audiences who prefer gaming experiences in their native languages. The launch represents a major milestone for the RuneScape franchise, expanding its previously Western-focused player base into one of the world’s largest gaming regions.
