Is Saros A Sequel To Returnal?
Housemarque and Sony Interactive Entertainment have clarified the relationship between their two third-person bullet-hell roguelites, Saros and Returnal, as confusion mounts about whether one title is a sequel, prequel, or upgrade to the other.
Both games share striking similarities in style, presentation, and gameplay mechanics, featuring sophisticated graphics, lighting effects, and bullet-hell combat patterns that make them appear visually and mechanically comparable. This resemblance has led players and observers to question the connection between the two titles, particularly given that Saros appears to represent an upgraded or evolved version of the formula established by Returnal.
However, the developer has confirmed that Saros is not a prequel to Returnal in any capacity. The two games feature distinct narratives and protagonists: Selene Vassos’ journey takes place on the planet Atropos in Returnal, while Saros follows a different character in a separate setting. Despite their obvious similarities in core gameplay and presentation, the games occupy separate storylines within their respective universes.
