Star Trek: Resurgence Won’t Live Long And Prosper, Being Delisted In Under Three Years
Star Trek: Resurgence, a narrative-driven adventure game released in 2023 by developer Dramatic Labs and publisher Bruner House, is being delisted from digital storefronts after its distribution license expired. The game has already been removed from Steam and the Xbox Store, with both platforms notifying users that it will “no longer be offered for sale.”
Dramatic Labs and Bruner House announced the delisting in a Steam post, stating: “Our license to distribute Star Trek: Resurgence has come to an end, so the game will no longer be offered for sale. Existing customers can continue to access the game via their Steam library.” Importantly, players who have already purchased the game retain access to it through their digital libraries.
As of publication, Star Trek: Resurgence remains available for purchase on the Epic Games Store, PlayStation Store (PS4/PS5), and Nintendo eShop. However, the game is expected to eventually disappear from these platforms as well, following the same licensing expiration pattern.
The delisting represents a broader issue in game preservation and the games industry’s reliance on licensed intellectual properties. Games built on temporary licensing agreements are vulnerable to removal from sale once those agreements expire, making them inaccessible to new players. Star Trek: Resurgence’s removal approximately three years after its release exemplifies this challenge—while fans can still play through existing libraries, the game will become increasingly difficult for new players to legally obtain as it vanishes from major digital storefronts. The game was developed by Dramatic Labs, a studio founded by former Telltale Games employees.
