Starfield’s PS5 port manages roughly 140K sales in a week, estimates analyst firm

Starfield’s long-awaited PlayStation 5 port launched on April 7 with the Free Lanes update and Terran Armada DLC, but initial sales figures suggest the release is not the hit that anticipation might have suggested. According to Alinea Analytics, the sci-fi RPG sold approximately 140,000 copies in its first week on PS5, generating around $7.7 million in gross revenue.

Analysts describe the performance as “lukewarm” and “a middling start”—not impressive for what has been called the biggest Bethesda RPG in a decade, despite the game ranking highly on PlayStation Store pre-order lists ahead of launch. The game has outperformed several other Xbox ports to PlayStation, including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Ninja Gaiden 4, and The Outer Worlds 2, but falls short of expectations for a title of this scale and profile.

The underwhelming debut comes as the PS5 port has encountered significant technical issues since launch, with fixes scheduled to roll out soon. Interestingly, the release appears to have boosted sales on the game’s original platforms—Xbox and PC—suggesting the content update and DLC announcement may have renewed player interest across all versions.

Alinea Analytics’ estimates come with caveats, as the firm’s sales predictions have been scrutinized for accuracy in past analyses. Bethesda has not officially announced sales figures for Starfield on PS5. The port’s performance has prompted broader questions about Microsoft’s strategy of bringing Xbox exclusives to PlayStation several months after their initial release.
